Jean-Jacques
Maillet is the brother-in-law of Philippe Sevault. He comes from a family
that have been in Dauvers, a hamlet that sits at the foot of the Jasnières
slope, for four generations and this is where he has his cellar in the
rock. He bought La Pâquerie, a smallholding on the top of the Jasnières
slope, in 1982, although in reality Maillet is a polyculturist and his
main business is growing cereals, farming 200 hectares of land across the
Loir in Villedieu-le-Château with his son, Damien.
Wine
Overview :
He works
three hectares in Jasnières, where all the vines in Sous-le-Bois, and a further 3.8 hectares of Coteaux du Loir, of
which 75% is red. Maillet owns no vines. He rents everything. There are
also a couple hectares dedicated to Vin de Pays which he tends to sell off
en-vrac, otherwise two thirds of
his production is bottled.
The Wines :
These are
clean and soundly made, but lack individuality and character.
2007
Coteaux du Loir Blanc
Bright. Pale green. Closed, but also a bit high toned. Not very expressive on
the nose or palate at present. Light and lively. Early drinking style.

2006 Jasnières
Bright. Pale
green. Clean primary Chenin nose and palate. Mid weight, light and easy on
the palate. Falls a bit short on the finish. It may evolve a little, but
this is for early drinking. (12/08)
2007 Coteaux du Loir Rosé
Attractive
salmon pink appearance. Primary and clean with a faint pepperiness. Mid
weight on entry with a hint of residual sugar. Flavour of
parma
violets. Bitter and unknit to the finish. Ordinary. (12/08)
2007
Coteaux du Loir Rouge
Polished.
Pale ruby red. A bit washed out in appearance. Very good white pepper
nose. Light but fresh, but with good intensity of varietal character. Good
white pepper flavours. The acidity is a touch squeaky and unripe. Soft
tannins. Drinking now. (12/08)
