Dawn over Villemontais
Jean-Pierre
Bénétière
The Bénétières are an old Villemontais family
running a small domaine of 4.2 hectares of vines. The likeable and chatty
Jean-Pierre, who is a MOF (a Meilleur
Ouvrier de France, the vinous equivalent would be a Master of Wine)
established a workshop for the production of wicker baskets in the village
in 1989. However, he gave up the workshop in 1994 when he was obliged to
take over the running of the family vineyard from his father. Until 2007,
when he gave up the vines, there were three wines produced here; about
3,000 bottles a year of rosé and two reds, a fruité
‘Tradition’ and the more
corsé ‘Vieilles Vignes’.
