to the Loire regions
Patrick Lanoix represents the third generation of vignerons
to make wine in Beaumerle, a hamlet some five kilometres south-east of Châteaumeillant.
The vines were planted by his grandfather, René, and together with his
father, Maurice, they work a total of 12 hectares. In addition to the
vines, they grow cereals and when not tending to his vines Patrick, who is
in his forties, plays guitar in a local band, and has a separate
enterprise renting out sound and lighting equipment. He was ‘on tour’
when I visited the region, so it was his wife, Lysiane, who walked me
through the purpose built warehouse cum cellar.
There are two separate labels that appear from this cellar: Domaine du
Feuillat which is the label for wines bottled by Maurice, whilst ‘Cuvée
du Chêne Combeau’ is sold by Patrick, although my understanding is that
the wines are essentially the same.
